While we typically believe that strict body standards are only associated with women, men have similar body standards they may want to meet despite the fact that they may not openly discuss it. Many men may not feel comfortable or confident in their bodies after children, therefore turn to cosmetic surgery to help them achieve the look they want and drastically improve their self-esteem and self-confidence.
Why Many Fathers Are Undergoing a ‘Daddy Makeover’
Many women who are looking to get their pre-baby body back turn to a specialized combination of plastic surgery options referred to as a “mommy makeover” however, many fathers are becoming increasingly interested in getting a daddy makeover after their children are born as well. Dad’s may not have as much time for themselves to work out and maintain their as they did prior to children therefore may not have ample time for recovery either. Fortunately, daddy makeovers combine multiple procedures into one, so recovery time can be lessened.
Although the physical toll of pregnancy occurs primarily to women, men may also experience changes in their bodies during their partner’s pregnancy along with the early years as a parent. While daddy makeovers may have not been as popular within the past years, an increasing number of fathers are now choosing to undergo this procedure.
What is a Daddy Makeover?
Similar to mommy makeovers, daddy makeovers address areas of concern that men have. This group of customized cosmetic procedures was created in order to help men achieve their ideal body shape in one single surgery. This is a great option for men who have tried diet and exercise but are still not able to achieve their desired physique. Daddy makeovers consist of the following surgeries:
- Liposuction- This is another fairly common procedure that removes stubborn fat from a variety of different areas of the body. Many men may find it difficult to remove certain pockets of fat regardless of how healthy they eat or how much they exercise. The most common areas of concern would be the abdomen, flanks, chest, and axillae. Liposuction can rectify these issues easily and oftentimes in one session. This could be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and recovery is approximately 7 days.
- Gynecomastia surgery- Many men experience gynecomastia, a condition where excess fat and or glandular tissue tends to pool around the chest, mimicking the look of female breasts, and can also grow unevenly. This procedure removes that fat and glandular tissue in order to create a firmer, more masculine-looking chest area. This could be done under local anesthesia and recovery is approximately 7 days.
- Tummy tuck- A tummy tuck is a fairly common procedure that removes excess skin from the abdomen in order to create a more firm, slim, and sculpted appearance. This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and would require at least 10-14 days of recovery.
Dads deserve to look and feel their best just as much as moms!
