Individuals can be born with inverted nipples or they can naturally occur after breastfeeding. To correct inverted nipples, a series of stitches are placed around the nipple to push them out and provide a stable platform.
This is an in-office procedure under local anesthesia and takes approximately one hour. Patients can usually return to work the following day but should avoid strenuous activities for one-to-two weeks. Bruising and swelling should subside in one-to-two weeks.
