We are in the era when we can readily change or revamp our physical appearance any way that it benefits us through plastic surgery. One of the most common areas people get work done is in the abdomen area. Who doesn’t want to have that perfect curve of a waistline, right?
When it comes to plastic surgery in the abdomen, there are two popular choices today: tummy tuck or liposuction. What is the difference between the two procedures? Which one do you need?
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that aims to remove the excess or sagging skin in the abdominal area. The excess skin is a result after weight loss or when your abdominal skin is stretched from pregnancy. Unfortunately, sagging of the skin can’t be fixed with diet and exercise. The best way to deal with the excess abdominal skin is through tummy tuck.
During a tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Singh will not only remove the saggy skin on your abdomen but also tighten the abdominal wall muscles, leaving you with a flat and toned midsection. This procedure can also treat stretch marks and an existing C-section scar. Tummy tucks are done at a surgery center under general anesthesia.
Smart Liposuction
Does your belly protrude because of your belly fat? Then, liposuction is the procedure for you! This procedure treats selected areas of the body by suctioning and removing unwanted fat, giving your abdomen a more contoured and slimmer appearance. During the procedure, Dr. Singh makes small incisions hidden in your abdomen or bikini line area. The smart liposuction laser breaks up the fat cells and suctions the fat out through a thin cannula. Liposuction can be done under both general or local anesthesia.
Which procedure is best for you?
For a tummy tuck, the excess skin that was removed during the surgery will no longer come back; unless you gain a tremendous amount of weight or get pregnant again. Therefore, the result of tummy tuck can be long lasting especially if you maintain a good weight and an active lifestyle.
With liposuction, once your body has fully recovered from the surgery, you will have a flatter and more contoured abdomen. Liposuction surgery can be done to other areas of the body, apart from the abdomen, such as the thighs, hips, upper arms, back, chest, chin, and others. So if you have fatty deposits in different areas of your body that can’t be removed with diet and exercise, then liposuction can be a great option for you. However, liposuction won’t remove sagging or excess skin.
